So far, Passport services have reached 8,552 Nigerians across the United States, Canada, Qatar and the United Kingdom through targeted intervention exercises by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
Of the figure, 3,543 Nigerians were enrolled in completed exercises across the United States, Canada and Qatar. Meanwhile, the ongoing intervention in the United Kingdom has recorded 5,099 enrolments across London and Manchester.
The figures highlight the scale of the NIS effort to bring passport services closer to Nigerians in the diaspora. The exercises were undertaken under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and community representatives.
Passport Services Expand Across Three Additional Countries
The intervention in the United States covered Chicago, Michigan and Milwaukee from September 7 to 15, 2026. During the exercise, the NIS enrolled 535 applicants seeking passport services.
Canada recorded 2,257 enrolments during its intervention from September 6 to 19, 2026. The exercise covered Manitoba, Toronto, Saskatoon, Alberta and New Brunswick, making Canada the largest of the three completed interventions.
In Qatar, the exercise ran from August 9 to 24, 2026. The NIS enrolled 751 applicants during the intervention, further expanding access to passport services for Nigerians in the Gulf country.
Together, the three exercises produced 3,543 enrolments. The figures add to the 5,099 Nigerians already enrolled through the ongoing United Kingdom intervention, bringing the combined total across the four countries to 8,552.
The United Kingdom exercise covers London and Manchester and remains ongoing. According to the NIS, passport production and dispatch are being carried out concurrently with the exercise.
The scale of the UK intervention has therefore contributed the largest share of the total enrolments recorded so far. It also provides additional context to the latest figures from the United States, Canada and Qatar.
The NIS said the interventions were designed to bring passport services closer to Nigerians across various cities. The Service also worked with Nigerian diplomatic missions and representatives of Nigerian communities to ensure a coordinated service delivery process.
The approach provides applicants with access to passport-related services closer to their communities. It also seeks to make the process more responsive for Nigerians who may otherwise need to travel to designated diplomatic locations.
For Nigerians in the diaspora, the interventions offer an additional channel for accessing passport services. The NIS said thousands have already benefited from the exercises across the four countries.
Contactless System Extends Passport Services
While the UK intervention continues, the NIS has also provided an option for applicants who cannot secure appointment slots. Nigerians who prefer not to visit intervention centres or the High Commission physically are encouraged to use the Contactless Passport Application System.
The option provides another route for accessing passport services during the ongoing intervention. It is particularly relevant to applicants who were unable to obtain appointment slots during the exercise.
The NIS has reiterated its commitment to responsive and accessible passport services for Nigerians in the diaspora. The Service also pledged to ensure timely, efficient and convenient service delivery.
The intervention exercises are part of that broader effort to improve access for Nigerians outside the country. They have so far covered locations across North America, Europe and the Middle East.
