The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a Passport Intervention exercise across four United Kingdom locations from September 7 to 26, 2026.
The exercise will provide passport services to Nigerians seeking new passports, renewals and resolution of pending applications. Meanwhile, the initiative follows an earlier announcement on the deployment of a Passport Intervention Team from NIS Headquarters, Abuja.
The deployment was directed by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as part of efforts to improve passport services for Nigerians in the diaspora. The Service said the locations and dates were finalised after consultations with the Nigerian High Commission and Nigerian community representatives in the UK.
The Service Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, disclosed the arrangements in a public announcement dated August 31, 2026. He said the Passport Intervention exercise would cover London, Manchester, Aberdeen and Cardiff.
Passport Intervention Covers Four UK Locations
The first phase of the Passport Intervention exercise will run from September 7 to 19 in Manchester and London.
In Manchester, applicants will be attended to at Nigerian House, 23 Platt Lane, Manchester M14 5NE. The London exercise will hold at Layali Lounge, Trent Park, Bramley Road, London N14 4UW.
The second phase will take place from September 21 to 26 in Aberdeen and Cardiff. The Aberdeen exercise will be held at Hilton Convention Centre, 13 Smithfield Road, Aberdeen AB24 4NR.
In Cardiff, the intervention team will operate from Sophia Gardens, Sophia Walk, Cardiff CF11 9XR. The Service said eligible Nigerians in the specified locations and surrounding areas are encouraged to participate in the exercise.
The Passport Intervention exercise is open to Nigerians seeking fresh passports, passport renewals or assistance with pending applications. Therefore, applicants with unresolved passport cases can use the opportunity to engage officials directly at the designated venues.
Applicants Must Complete Online Process
However, the NIS stressed that applicants must complete their applications and make payments through the official NIS Passport Application Portal before attending the exercise.
The Service’s official passport guidance confirms that applicants are expected to apply online, select an appropriate processing centre and book an appointment for biometric enrolment.
Applicants attending the Passport Intervention exercise must present their completed application forms, payment slips and appointment slips. They must also provide a self-addressed return envelope.
For passport renewal applications, presentation of the applicant’s current passport is compulsory. The NIS also warned that applicants who arrive with cash will not be attended to.
The Service therefore urged applicants to comply with the stated requirements before visiting their chosen venues. In addition, applicants were advised to cooperate fully with immigration officials to ensure a smooth and orderly exercise.
The NIS has also advised passport applicants to use its official channels and avoid unauthorised platforms. Its official website provides information on passport applications, renewals and other travel-document services.
Digital Passport Services Remain Available
The Passport Intervention exercise will not affect the existing digital passport services operated by the Nigeria Immigration Service.
According to DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, all NIS digital passport application channels remain operational. This includes the Contactless Passport Application System, which provides another option for eligible applicants.
The Service’s home delivery service is also available to applicants. Therefore, Nigerians who can use the digital channels do not necessarily have to wait for the physical intervention exercise.
The NIS has increasingly expanded digital passport services for Nigerians outside the country. Its official information platform provides guidance for applicants applying from outside Nigeria, including the appointment process for biometric enrolment.
The latest Passport Intervention exercise nevertheless gives Nigerians in the four selected UK locations an additional opportunity to access passport services. It could also help applicants with pending cases receive direct assistance from the deployed team.
The Passport Intervention programme therefore represents a targeted effort to bring passport services closer to Nigerians living in the UK. It also provides an opportunity for applicants to address outstanding applications while accessing new and renewal services at designated locations.
Nigerians intending to participate should complete the required online process before visiting their preferred venue. They should also ensure that all required documents are available to avoid delays during the Passport Intervention exercise.
