Overland Airways has successfully renewed its International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification. This marks the airline’s steadfast adherence to globally recognized safety standards. As Nigeria’s longest-serving domestic airline, Overland Airways renewed this certification for the 5th consecutive time, demonstrating its commitment to operational integrity. First achieving IOSA certification in 2015, the airline consistently renewed in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022, and now in 2024. Likewise, the recent audit assessed Overland Airways across eight critical safety disciplines, reinforcing its status within the rigorous IOSA framework. This “IOSA certification renewal milestone” reflects the airline’s unwavering dedication to excellence and its adherence to a demanding safety standard.

IOSA, the internationally recognized safety benchmark, sets a standard required by the African Union for its member airlines. With over 417 airlines listed on the IOSA registry, this certification has become vital for promoting operational safety worldwide. Furthermore, Overland Airways’ ongoing IOSA renewal emphasizes its key role in African aviation, setting a standard for safe airline service.

Capt. Edward Boyo, Overland’s CEO stated, “Overland Airways IOSA certification renewal affirms our commitment to meeting the highest international standards. It further validates our ongoing service promise, sustained over 22 years, to provide our customers with safe, and comfortable flights.”

Moreover, this dedication to safety is paralleled by Overland Airways’ investment in fleet modernization. Transitioning from an all-turboprop fleet, Overland introduced two brand-new Embraer E175 jets to broaden its service offering. In August 2024, as part of its growth strategy, Overland began direct flights between Lagos and Abuja, easing capacity demands. This new route relieves congestion on one of Nigeria’s busiest travel corridors, enhancing accessibility and passenger convenience.

Boyo emphasized the strict requirements of IOSA certification, saying, “The rigorous audit process for IOSA certification, which elevates Overland Airways among Africa’s top airlines, was only achievable through our team’s dedication.”

We equally extend our appreciation to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for their invaluable support.”

In conclusion, Overland Airways’ fifth IOSA certification renewal is a testament to its sustained commitment to aviation safety standards. The airline’s success, fortified by IOSA certification renewal milestones, highlights its dedication to operational safety and sets a high bar within Nigeria’s aviation industry.
