Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), underscored the need for an integrated transport system in Nigeria. She emphasised this at the 16th National Transport Conference hosted by the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA. Addressing industry leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders, she stressed the importance of resilient, interconnected transport networks. This year’s theme spotlighted transportation challenges that developing economies encounter. Furthermore, it underscores the sector’s essential role in Nigeria’s national development objectives.
Mrs. Kuku emphasized that transportation acts as the “backbone of any economy,” particularly in Africa’s emerging markets.
Highlighting FAAN’s role in a larger ecosystem, Mrs. Kuku described FAAN’s goal to create a world-class, integrated model. Similarly, she emphasized that FAAN connects aviation, road, rail, and maritime systems, underscoring its commitment to interconnected infrastructure. “FAAN recognizes that our airports are not isolated infrastructure; they form part of a wider transportation ecosystem,” she stated. Mrs. Kuku stressed FAAN’s dedication to seamless integration and improvement within this collaborative model.
Additionally, FAAN’s integrated approach supports its goal of positioning Nigeria as a key hub for West African trade and travel. Praising CIoTA, Mrs. Kuku described it as a “leader and unifier” in the sector, promoting vital partnerships and collaboration. “This partnership underscores our shared vision of a vibrant, efficient, and forward-looking transport system,” she added. “We believe this will catalyze economic growth and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.”
As the conference moves forward, FAAN and CIoTA aim to develop actionable solutions and build partnerships to transform transportation. Mrs. Kuku noted the pursuit of an integrated transport system in Nigeria as a valuable opportunity for all stakeholders. She argued that this approach significantly supports the national agenda of enhanced connectivity and resilience. In conclusion, Mrs. Kuku expressed confidence in the conference’s resolutions bringing meaningful changes to the transport sector. She further emphasized these insights would positively impact Nigerian communities, extending beyond the industry itself.
Throughout the week, the CIoTA National Transport Conference will feature extensive discussions on infrastructure, governance, human capital, and disruptive technology. Ultimately, these dialogues aim to build a forward-thinking vision for Nigeria’s transport system, reinforcing FAAN’s commitment to creating an accessible, sustainable, and well-integrated transport system for all.
