Ethiopian Unveils Massive ETB1bn Yabello Airport

Ethiopian Airlines has officially inaugurated its new airport project in Yabello, Oromia’s Borena Zone, alongside the launch of a passenger service.
The milestone strengthens Ethiopia’s aviation infrastructure and enhances regional connectivity. The event drew senior government officials, airline executives, and community leaders.
The Yabello project cost more than one billion ETB. Located 11 kilometres from Yabello town, the development includes a new airfield, access roads, a temporary terminal, and other facilities.
The initiative underscores Ethiopia’s long-term investment in aviation as a driver of national growth.
Commenting on the inauguration, Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, said:

The new airport is expected to create a lasting impact. It will boost regional trade, attract tourism, and encourage investment.
In addition, it will strengthen people-to-people interaction and accelerate socio-economic growth across southern Oromia.
Ethiopian Airlines has prioritised Yabello as part of its domestic aviation development agenda. The airport has been one of the domestic aviation infrastructure projects that Ethiopian Airlines has been developing.
Ethiopian Airlines continues to play a central role in expanding Ethiopia’s aviation landscape, bridging communities, and contributing to the country’s sustainable growth.
