In an active initiative, US NGO Project Sunshine is conducting the “Aerostem Fellowship,” training Kwara State students in aviation.
The training, led by Captain Idris Ekungba, aims to fuel students’ passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Selected students from various public secondary schools in Kwara State actively participated in the program, emphasizing hands-on experience.
Unlike the previous year’s centralized training, this edition brought the learning directly to each school, fostering a more comprehensive engagement.
The students received instruction on the intricacies of aircraft manufacturing, especially focusing on Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA).
Musa Aliyu Damilola, a student pilot, emphasized enlightening the younger generation about aviation’s intricacies and building a passion for the industry.
Abubakar Shola Buhari, the Project Sunshine Coordinator in Nigeria, highlighted the organization’s commitment to retraining students, deepening their interest.
Teachers and students alike expressed gratitude for the program, with positive feedback and an eagerness to continue exploring aviation and engineering.
Captain Ekungba, the driving force behind the initiative, sponsored the training, providing aircraft components for practical sessions in selected schools.
He stressed the importance of nurturing STEM knowledge among African youth, aiming for a more substantial presence in the aviation industry.
As the students test-ran their newly built Remote Controlled Aircraft, the success of Project Sunshine’s hands-on approach became evident.
Capt. Ekungba’s mission goes beyond aviation, extending to developing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math skills, vital for Nigeria’s future progress.
