Nigeria’s Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, reveals the absence of master plans for the nation’s international airports, hindering development and organization.
In a recent television interview, Keyamo emphasized the urgent need to address the lack of a comprehensive plan for the airports.
Keyamo expressed dismay, stating, “Upon my arrival, I discovered no master plans for any of our five international airports. This lack led to indiscriminate approvals and the chaotic state of the Murtala Muhammed Airport.”
Asserting the importance of infrastructure planning, he added, “How can you build without a plan? We must have a vision for the next 30 years, specifying locations for buildings, roads, and rail routes.”
Highlighting the significance of master plans, Keyamo noted, “These plans will enable Nigeria to showcase its vision to global investors, shifting the paradigm in our favor.”
Continuing, he emphasized the need for airport transformation, stating, “We lack a single hub airport; our current facilities are outdated. We plan to convert them into hubs, creating a modern airport ecosystem.”
Keyamo revealed plans to seek international concessionaires for the transformation of airports in MAKIA, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Lagos, envisioning a comprehensive and interconnected hub system.
