COMPTROLLER General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede has said that the service is currently on the verge of surpassing the figures remitted to the Federal Government coffers in 2018 as it has so far generated a whooping N11,682, 009,761.69k and US$ 22,972.38.
This is just as Babandede has said that although a firm believer of the Public Private Partnership (PPP), some of the agreements need to be renegotiated as they add little or no value and milk on immigration resources
The Controller General made this known yesterday as he gave his welcome address at Annual Comptroller Generals Conference 2019 holding in Edo State with theme: Migration in a Developing Economy: The Role of NIS.
According to him, the NIS has almost surpassed its remittance to the federal government account as revenues in 2018 as it has remitted this year between January 1st and August 31st, 2019 over N11.7 and US$22, 972.32 surpassing the 2018 total of N6, 945, 585,364.86k and US$ 36, 909, 411.
He said, “The NIS is not only a key security agency but also a service provider and a revenue generating agency, in 2018 the NIS remitted N6, 945,585,364.69k and US$ 36, 909, 411 as share of revenue generated through Public Private partnership to the Federal government and in 2019 between January 1st and August 31, we have remitted N11,682, 009,761.69k and US$22, 972.38 already surpassing our record of last year.”
He however said it is his believe and the believe of many others that some of the PPP agreements need renewals or renegotiations as that will boost the service’s revenue.
“Every serving and retired NIS officer strongly believes that a renewal of some of these PPP agreements may double or even triple revenue at the time we are running a budget deficit.
“I must not be quoted out of context as I am a strong believer of PPP because it liberates resources and creates efficiency but not the PPP we operate that exploit our resources and add little value to our work
“I am aware and confident that our minister of interior will make a difference by renegotiating some of these PPPs to effectively drive the process and increase the share of revenue accruable to government
