NIGERIAN Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has alerted on expected deterioration of horizontal visibility with values less than 1000m in the northern part of the country especially over, Borno, Yobe, Kano, Gombe, Bauchi, Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto.
This is just as the agency has cautioned on the effect of such including disruption of flight operations, poor visibility on the roads and other effects.
A statement issued by the Agency’s Central Forecast Office and made available by General Manager Public Relations, Muntari Yusuf Ibrahim observed that fresh dust raised over the source region in Chad Republic is expected to be transported into the country.
Statement read,”The dust is expected to deteriorate horizontal visibility values over the northern parts of the country from the time of the issuance of the forecast to the next 24 hours.
“NiMet therefore cautioned that flight operations may be disrupted and airline operators are advised to pick up their flight folders at all aerodromes in the country and adhere to regulations, while road users should exert caution while driving along areas with poor visibility during this period. People with respiratory problems should also take caution.
“NiMet reiterates it’s commitment to continue to monitor and update as the situation improves or deteriorates.”
