NAKUMBUKA, the annual day of the observance for the African slavery holocaust (Maafa) will be held this November 26, 2019 with educators and youth coming together to share in this inaugural celebration.
Nakumbuka, meaning ‘We remember’ in Swahili is held in memory of millions of Africans who perished during the suave trade and the middle passage.
The program will hold at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana, Legon with an enchainment and breaking of chains ceremony to be held to memorialize the route enslaved Africans See Nakumbuka Day videotook from Ghana to the Americas.
There will be lectures commemorating the Year of Return and other workshops as well as dance, drumming, tie and dye, storytelling, open mic and a host of other activities.
Lectures will be given by Prof. Mjiba, Prof. Bayyinah Bello (Ayit), Dr. E. Kwaku Senah, Dr. OĆ ĖbaĆāŗdeĆāŗleĆāŗ Kambon, Chief Timothy McPherson (Jamaica) and Amina Blackwood Meeks (Jamaica)
