Telecom service provider, MTN  has announced a collaboration with Nigerian Meteorological Agency ( NiMet) to distribute vital weather updates to farmers nationwide. This partnership follows a recent agreement between NiMet and Tomorrow.io, a renowned weather intelligence firm based in Boston, USA, operating extensively in Africa and the Middle East.

Tobechukwu Okigbo, Chief Corporate Services & Sustainability Officer at MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting national initiatives. Okigbo expressed eagerness to aid NiMet’s collaboration with Tomorrow.io, particularly in extending this service to farmers nationwide.

Echoing Okigbo’s sentiments, Professor Charles Anosike, Director-General and CEO of NiMet, highlighted the agency’s pivotal role in providing meteorological data for various sectors. Anosike emphasized the importance of weather information for sectors such as aviation, marine, oil and gas, construction, and academia. He further underscored NiMet’s dedication to enhancing food security.

This collaboration between MTN and NiMet heralds a new era in disseminating weather and climate intelligence to empower farmers and enhance national food security.
