Minister Festus Keyamo, affirmed the federal government’s strong support for Air Peace and other local airlines, citing their growth. At Air Peace’s 10th anniversary celebration, Keyamo praised the airline’s success and resilience in a challenging industry. He further highlighted how Air Peace has thrived where many local carriers struggle to survive long-term.
Keyamo commended Air Peace as a symbol of national pride, noting its ability to compete internationally. He said, “Air Peace flies the Nigerian flag high,” emphasizing the airline’s role in strengthening Nigeria’s global aviation presence.
Moreover, he acknowledged the visionary leadership of Dr. Allen Onyema, founder and CEO of Air Peace, expressing gratitude for his accomplishments. Keyamo encouraged other Nigerian airlines to adopt similar long-term strategies for success. He pointed to Air Peace’s achievements as proof of what is possible with sound management and commitment. Thus, emphasising strong support for Air Peace.
Keyamo further discussed the broader Nigerian aviation sector, citing studies that show Nigeria accounts for 80% of domestic air travel in Africa.
He pointed out that the Lagos–Abuja route is the busiest in Africa, underscoring the demand for more airline capacity. Keyamo noted that Air Peace is well-positioned to meet demand, setting industry standards with its fleet expansion and service quality.
In a forward-looking move, Keyamo announced that aircraft financiers and lessors have invited him to a January meeting with Nigerian airline operators.
The high-level meeting will aim to secure financial support for local airlines, further enhancing Nigeria’s global aviation position.
Keyamo concluded by reassuring stakeholders of the federal government’s unwavering commitment to reforms that support local carriers. He urged Nigerian airlines to embrace sustainable, long-term planning, stressing that this approach is key to their success. He also emphasized that the government remains focused on creating a conducive environment for the aviation industry to thrive.
