Minister Festus Keyamo emphasized the importance of local content training, highlighting that it will conserve foreign exchange and build capacity. He stated that such initiatives are essential for strengthening Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem, which can help address various resource challenges. Keyamo made this statement during his tour of Prime Atlantic Safety Services, a facility he believes will significantly enhance the sector’s development. The visit also included the commissioning of the Aviation Centre at the multipurpose international facility.

Keyamo reiterated that, under presidential directives, the government has reduced reliance on foreign training in favor of fostering local content. “We need to conserve our foreign exchange,” he stated. “I want to build capacity at reasonable costs within Nigeria, using local resources as much as possible,” Keyamo said. This strategic shift aims not only to conserve resources but also to create more opportunities for professionals to receive training locally.

The Minister praised Prime Atlantic’s facilities, noting their global standard and capabilities. He expressed surprise at the high level of training infrastructure available, comparing it favorably to many overseas institutions. “I have gone around the world myself,” Keyamo remarked. “Some global training centers are housed in one building, yet we spend vast amounts sending people abroad,” Keyamo remarked. He emphasized the value of using such facilities within Nigeria, which cuts costs and retains foreign exchange.

Ayo Otuyalo, Prime Atlantic Safety Services Group Managing Director, shared insights into the facility’s 14-year history and international partnerships.

Folake Soyannowo, the facility’s Managing Director, discussed the broader benefits of local capacity building. She emphasized that the center not only trains Nigerians but also attracts trainees from across Africa, adding economic value to the country.

Soyannowo also highlighted the facility’s international accreditation, ensuring that certifications earned here receive global recognition. “We are able to accommodate people from outside Nigeria,” she explained. “This enables us to generate revenue while providing top-quality training.” This global recognition makes Prime Atlantic an attractive option for professionals seeking internationally accepted qualifications.

Prime Atlantic’s safety, survival, and emergency response training spans various sectors, including offshore and industrial firefighting. The facility is pursuing International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) accreditation to strengthen its position in aviation safety training. Additionally, Minister Keyamo watched a live rescue simulation during his tour of the facility’s marine training areas, showcasing advanced capabilities.

Furthermore, he observed live fire training exercises on rotary wing modules, highlighting the facility’s comprehensive safety training programs. The facility’s accreditations, including JOYF for industrial firefighting and OPITO for offshore petroleum safety, demonstrate its commitment to industry standards.
