Director General/CEO Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Prof. Charles Anosike, said the agreement aligns with NiMet’s core mandate to deliver reliable, data-driven climate services. He explained that the partnership will deepen research into drought trends, flood behaviour, and agricultural planning. Therefore, it will help communities anticipate and manage weather-related risks more effectively.

He added that the initiative will also support the development of new academic materials for climate science. These materials will promote collaboration with Landmark University researchers and enhance innovation across multiple fields. NiMet will contribute technical knowledge that improves the quality of scientific output and forecasting reliability.

Pro-Chancellor Dr. Olumuyiwa Oyeniyi affirmed the strong commitment of Landmark University to foster long-term scientific collaboration. He stated that the institution will engage actively in joint studies, staff exchanges, and community outreach programmes. Furthermore, these activities will translate scientific findings into practical tools that assist farmers, policymakers, and vulnerable settlements facing climate pressures.

The Memorandum of Understanding highlights the importance of coordinated action between academia and government agencies. It also reinforces Nigeria’s need for high-quality research partnerships in an era of increasing environmental uncertainty. Through shared expertise, both institutions aim to accelerate innovation and strengthen national preparedness for climate-induced challenges.

By combining NiMet’s technical capabilities with the academic strength of Landmark University, the collaboration establishes a robust foundation for climate monitoring, research, and education. Consequently, Nigeria is better positioned to address long-term environmental threats and support sustainable development across multiple sectors.
