French, Finnish Embassies Discuss Mutually Beneficial Areas with NiMet

At a tripartite meeting, NiMet’s collaboration discussion focused on facilitating relationships with companies from Finland and France.

Hence discussions with French and Finnish embassies which explored infrastructural development, capacity building, and project management opportunities.

During the meeting at the French Embassy in Abuja, Jean-Francois Hasperue, Charge D’Affaires, stated, “We are here to explore opportunities of working together as partners.”

The Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Leena Pylvanainen, emphasized NiMet’s pivotal role. She noted, “NiMet is a key institution in Nigeria. We have followed its climate and weather-related activities and see opportunities for collaboration in infrastructural development, capacity building, and project management.”

She added that the Finnish Embassy is eager to facilitate relationships between NiMet and Finnish companies.

Additionally, she mentioned that the DG/CEO of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, will meet some of these companies. This will occur during the seventy-eighth session of the Executive Council (EC-78) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The event will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from June 10 to 14, 2024.

The seventy-eighth session of the Executive Council (EC-78) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is a crucial meeting. WMO’s Executive Council gather to discuss and decide on issues related to global weather, climate, and water resources.

Specifically, during EC-78, participants discuss advancements in meteorological technology, strategies for climate change, and capacity building in meteorological services.

In response, NiMet’s DG/CEO, Professor Charles Anosike, expressed his enthusiasm for the potential collaboration.

“NiMet services all sectors of the Nigerian economy. The challenge we face is how to constantly improve our observation infrastructure and maintain them, given our nationwide footprint,” he said.

“With fast-changing technologies, the equipment gets obsolete quickly. We welcome your ideas for support and partnership and look forward to hosting you at our headquarters.”

Meanwhile, the meeting held on Monday, June 3, 2024, with embassies of Finland and France in Nigeria provides an inroad for NiMet’s collaboration discussion with both countries.
