United Bank for Africa (UBA) celebrated the success of its Graduate Management Acceleration Programme (GMAP) class of 2024, where 398 young Africans were welcomed into the UBA Tribe after completing a rigorous six-month hands-on work and learning experience.
The grand ceremony took place at Eko Hotel, Lagos, on Thursday, attended by guests, UBA management, faculty members, mentors, and the graduating class. Graduands from six African countries—Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambia—were in attendance.
Encomiums for GMAP:
Addressing the gathering, UBA’s Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, congratulated the graduates and emphasized the bank’s commitment to youth empowerment in Africa. He furthermore highlighted UBA’s role in bridging the unemployment gap, a critical challenge on the continent.
Elumelu expressed, “For me, these young UBA Graduates are a testament to who we are: a pan-African Group that invests in African talent. This milestone signifies UBA’s dedication to youth empowerment.”
Moreover, he continued, “At UBA, identifying and training these young individuals for the future is our passion. This is how we play our role as a Pan-African bank, helping to empower the next generation of African youth.”
UBA’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, praised the graduates for their commitment to excellence. He further emphasized the program’s crucial role in developing future leaders within UBA. “Let us take a moment to express our deepest appreciation for the unwavering support of your families and friends.” Their invaluable encouragement has played a pivotal role in your success throughout this journey.

Akindele highlighted UBA’s commitment to nurturing talent within the organization, stating that the GMAP programme will continue to be a cornerstone of their leadership development initiatives.
UBA’s Group Head, Human Resources, Modupe Akindele, emphasized the bank’s dedication to nurturing talent and leadership. “Already, the programme has graduated over 1,100 graduates, that is about 700 in 2023 and now we have 398 graduates. At UBA, we believe in equal opportunity for all and will nurture young talent to their full potential.,” she added.
