Emergency response teams have located three bodies from the Sikorsky SK76 helicopter crash near Bonny Finima waters. The aircraft, registered 5NBQG and operated by Eastwind Aviation, had six passengers and two crew members on board. The search for the remaining five victims continues. Neighboring aerodromes, military units, and low-flying aircraft are aiding the efforts.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has already begun a thorough investigation into the accident. Initial reports indicate that the helicopter lost contact with air traffic controllers while flying under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). Its Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) failed to transmit, complicating search and rescue efforts. Authorities had to manually trace the Sikorsky SK76 helicopter crash location.

The NSIB, in collaboration with NEMA, NCAA, and the Nigerian Armed Forces, swiftly initiated search and rescue operations. Captain Alex Badeh Jr., Director General of the NSIB, emphasized that the agency’s thoughts and prayers are with the affected families. He assured that they remain fully committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.

NSIB teams are now preparing to visit the crash site, where they will gather evidence and conduct an in-depth investigation. A preliminary report will soon be released, offering insight into the progress of the ongoing investigation. Throughout this process, the Bureau remains dedicated to ensuring transparency and accountability.
