THE Nigerian Immigration Service ( NIS) Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, has emphasized that its new modus operandi involves achieving zero tolerance to corruption and anything that would bring disregard to the service
This is just as the Command is plotting better border management strategies to ensure that the crucial gateway is thoroughly and professionally manned with hopes to reduce to the minimum, human trafficking, discourteousness and other vices.
The MMIA Command in January, as part of efforts to continuously improve its performance appointed Mrs. Kemi Nandap who is on the reins and leading the charge.
According to a source who spoke on the recent activities at the airport command, he said the zero tolerance to anything that will portray the service in a bad light was just part of some of the things the new comptroller is putting in place to create an excellent system.
” Anyone who is found wanting, any officer who has done something to contravene the service laws, or extorted anyone must be divisively dealt with and that’s what the new comptroller is doing..”
He said that the incident with regards the Twitter case of the 14 year old kid extorted wàs already taken care of by the command before the news had gone out.
“Immediately this happened, even before it was public once we got wind and identified who the officer wás, he was withdrawn immediately. So when the matter was escalated to us, madam said’ oh we have already acted on it’ and he was out of the command, service headquarters has taken over that and presently he is still under investigation. The fact that he was withdrawn from the command is still the first line of action.
He said the new comptroller has charged the men to continuously engage the public Inna civil manner and in a polite manner but with professionalism as customer service is a huge thing for the command and the service as a whole.
The source says that ahead of operations of the new Chinese assisted terminal recently commissioned by President Muhammad Buhari, that the Service headquarters has deployed to the command some more officers.
He said the men have not been deployed yet as they are undergoing intensive induction training for two weeks about the ethics of working at a special command.
He stressed that the new men needed to skill, the mindset, attitude, comportment to carry out the new charge and so the command is ensuring they are prepared to take up the challenge.
He further said that the new comptroller was passionate about anti- human trafficking explaining that despite the fact the the NIS wants to facilitate passenger, it will not overlook the important indications to people being teleguided so they can be trafficked.
