The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has achieved ISO 9001:2015 Certification at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu at first trial. This certification came after a successful third-party audit of aeronautical meteorological products and services offered to airlines by Certech Inc. Canada. The audit lasted from the 15th – 17th July 2024.
In a letter dated July 17, 2024, Frank Strohmeier, Lead Auditor and Director at Certech, informed the Director General of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, about the certification. The letter, titled ‘ISO 9001:2015’, read in part, “We achieved the audit objectives for the surveillance audit. We performed a systematic process audit with emphasis on risks and objectives per ISO 9001:2015.”
Consequently, the 3rd party audit by Certech Inc. Canada resulted in the issuance of a revised certificate. “The Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s quality management system conforms to the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 for the provision of meteorological services to the aviation industry. Consequently, this demonstrates their adherence to high standards.”
Noteworthy is that NiMet’s AeroMet products and services at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, achieved certification on the first attempt. Moreover, this successful audit for ISO 9001:2015 certification marks a significant accomplishment for NiMet.
Meanwhile, work is ongoing to add seven additional airports: Maiduguri, Asaba, Owerri, Ibadan, Katsina, Yola, and Kaduna to the scope of the QMS ISO certification in NiMet. With the recent revised certification of Enugu, NiMet now has ISO 9001:2015 certification for five Nigerian international airports.
Here’s the sentence divided into two, each with 20 words:
NiMet was successfully recertified to the ISO standard in July 2023 for Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja. Additionally, Aminu Kano International Airport also received the recertification. This accomplishment highlights NiMet’s commitment to maintaining high standards.
It also got Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa certified at the same time. The ISO certification is usually valid for three years, with a yearly surveillance and maintenance audit until the next recertification due date in 2026.
Here’s the revised text with transition words added:
“Speaking on this development, Anosike said: ‘We are excited about this. Indeed, our Quality Management System (QMS) team, led by Usman Abdulrahman, has been working round the clock to achieve this feat. Consequently, we are not stopping here. Instead, our management focuses on improving standards at all our operational locations.'”
“He attributed the achievement to the directive from the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN. Notably, this directive aimed to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations. Furthermore, the goal was a continuous upward movement of Nigeria’s rating by the WMO and ICAO. This focus, in turn, drove the achievement.”
