Handover: Engine Akin Olateru hands over to Alex Badeh jnr new Director General of the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau.

New Director-General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, Alex Badeh Jnr has vowed to uphold the tenets of safety and adhere to industry standards.

He said this at the handover ceremony held at the Bureau’s headquarters at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Badeh commended immediate past DG, Engr Akin Olateru for his contributions to improving transport safety in the country. He maintained that Olateru’s service had laid the foundation for safety in the system.

Badeh said,“My vision for the NSIB is to be an agency defined not by the tragedies we investigate, but by the transformative advancements in transport safety that we inspire.

“We will not simply react to accidents; we will proactively prevent them from occurring. We will harness the power of data, technology, and human ingenuity to build a future where every journey is undertaken with peace of mind, every mile traversed with the assurance of a safe return.

Engr. Olateru, before the handover, called for support for the new head, stressing the enormity of the task ahead.

He narrated how he lost his marriage and got numerous death threats as the helmsman of the agency.

Olateru, first appointed as the Commissioner AIB on January 17, 2017, was reappointed for a second term in office later in 2021.

He was instrumental in setting up the Act to amend the AIB’s functions and commence transformation into NSIB.

Records show Olateru is the most successful head of the agency, releasing numerous air accident and serious incident reports and hundreds of safety recommendations while at it.
