The new President of Aeronautical information Management (AIMAN), Dr. Ibrahim Audu, acknowledges the stagnant progress in the AIS automation project, stating that since 2003, the issue has remained unchanged, with the reason for the delay unknown.
However, Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr Umar Farouk, expresses optimism, asserting that the agency is on the verge of flagging off the AIS Automation project, with completion at about 90%.
Farouk emphasizes the significance of digitalization, foreseeing benefits in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) integration, NOTAM digitalization, and enhanced weather observing systems. He assures that AIS automation will revolutionize operations and decision-making processes.
Represented by Barr. Isemiuhonmon Rita Egbadon, Farouk underscores NAMA’s commitment to integrating AIS Automation, anticipating a positive impact on revenue generation.
Dr. Audu in his submissions stated, Any effort to facilitate AIS automation, this association will make sure that it is supported. We can liaise with the management, since the automation is for the safety. So I don’t know why the delay. We need to consider safety, safety today, safety tomorrow, safety always and we shall get a resolution, and the AIS automation shall be realised”
Moreover, Dr. Audu addresses concerns regarding the licensing of members, underscoring the necessity for professional accreditation to instill confidence in their duties.
Former President William Ngerem acknowledges the Minister of Aviation’s efforts in securing a N40 billion intervention fund for NAMA, advocating for policy reviews to optimize agency functions amidst its critical role in the sector.
