Ibom Air has commemorated World Malaria Day with a major donation and awareness push in Akwa Ibom State. The airline, through its FAMPact initiative, presented anti-malaria medications to the State Malaria Elimination Programme. This intervention targets vulnerable populations across communities. Therefore, the effort strengthens ongoing malaria prevention campaigns.

The donation included 30,000 doses of Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine, 10,000 doses of Lokmal DT, and 10,000 doses of Paracetamol DT. Chief Executive Officer, Mr. George Uriesi, led the presentation on April 24, 2026. Meanwhile, Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, received the items on behalf of the state. The event held one day before World Malaria Day.

This marks the third consecutive year Ibom Air has supported malaria interventions in the state. The initiative reflects its Corporate Social Responsibility focus on health. In addition, FAMPact continues to expand its reach and impact. The programme prioritises pregnant women and children under five.

World Malaria Day Campaign Expands Community Reach

This year’s World Malaria Day theme, “Driven to end malaria, now we can, Now we must,” highlights urgency. Ibom Air’s actions align with this global call. However, malaria remains a leading cause of death in Nigeria. The burden continues to affect the most vulnerable groups.

To amplify awareness, the airline will host a “Walk Against Malaria” in Uyo. The event will take place on April 25, 2026, at Ibom Plaza. Participants will engage in sensitisation, health education, and fitness activities. Meanwhile, the initiative aims to deepen public understanding of malaria prevention.

Special guest, medical influencer Chinonso Egemba Fidelis, will support the campaign. His participation is expected to boost engagement across audiences. Therefore, organisers anticipate wider community involvement. The walk begins at 6:00 AM.

Speaking on the initiative, Group Manager Corporate Services, Mrs. Imelda Aba, said:
“At Ibom Air, we believe that our responsibility extends beyond flying passengers to their destinations. Through FAMPact, we are investing directly in the health and well-being of our communities. This year’s donation and the awareness walk are reminders that malaria is preventable, and everyone has a role to play. We are proud to partner with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to drive this message home.”

Programme Manager, Dr. Ukeme John, also stated:
“We commend Ibom Air for its sustained commitment to the fight against malaria. This donation comes at a critical time and will significantly support our efforts to protect pregnant women and children. We encourage all Akwa Ibom residents to turn out for the walk and join hands with us to end malaria.”

Launched in 2024, FAMPact has delivered insecticide-treated nets, medications, and education materials. It operates in partnership with the Ministry of Health. In addition, the initiative continues to grow in scale each year. Its impact is increasingly visible across communities.

Ibom Air appreciated the Akwa Ibom State Government and partners for support. The airline urged individuals and organisations to join the fight. Therefore, collective action remains essential to ending malaria.
