Law enforcement and eyewitnesses also observed a “fireball” in the area, prompting emergency service calls. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) released a statement on the February 9, 2024 crash.

It claimed the lives of six individuals, including Nigerian businessman Dr. Herbert Wigwe, his wife Doreen Wigwe, son Chizi Wigwe, and former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group, Mr. Abimbola Ogunbanjo.

The report indicates destruction of the helicopter’s fuselage and cockpit, with thermal damage evident on debris and vegetation. Flight control components were fragmented.

Data analysis, including ADS-B data, operator reports, and eyewitness accounts, is being utilized to reconstruct the flight path and sequence of events.

The tragic accident near Halloran Springs, California involved Nigerians, making the NSIB an interested participant granted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Hence, the NSIB has actively collaborated with the NTSB since the investigation’s inception. The NTSB shared the preliminary report, offering valuable insights into the flight path and accident scene.

On receiving the report, Director General of the NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh, expressed gratitude for the NTSB’s cooperation. He reiterated the commitment to work closely with relevant authorities for a thorough investigation.

It’s essential to note that the preliminary report is subject to further investigation and analysis, with updates expected as more evidence is gathered.
