Cabin crews’ aeromedical knowledge in providing first aid and assistance for on-board medical emergencies, underscore their roles. Acting Director General of Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, summarized these points at the 7th Cabin Crew Fair last weekend.

Captain Najomo, in his opening remarks, stressed crews’ roles also include regulatory and security compliance, safety checks, emergency procedures, and customer service.

The event, with the theme ‘The Cabin Crew Profession: The Role of Aeromedical,’ was organized by Mamaj Aviation Consult. The Acting DG emphasized the importance of continuous training and professional development, further stating that safety is not a destination but a journey requiring ongoing effort.

Continuous Training and Collaboration

He harped on the need for continued collaboration to elevate the standards of aviation safety and service. While commending Ms. Joy Ogbebo of Mamaj Aviation for organizing the fair, he assured attendees of the NCAA’s support for their efforts.

Ms. Ogbebo, a talent trainer, veteran crew member, and convener, said for anyone to be a cabin crew they have to be medically fit. The convener noted the importance of medical clearance in ensuring their fitness and the role cabin crews’ aeromedical knowledge play in flights. This she said is the purview of the NCAA to clear applicants and personnel listing health issues as challenges faced by aspiring cabin crew members.

Critical Aeromedical Knowledge

She stressed that aeromedical knowledge is crucial for cabin crew members to ensure passenger safety and handle altitude-related health issues. Besides managing in-flight emergencies like strokes or asthma attacks, cabin crew members must also be able to manage stress effectively.

They must also have coordination and, most importantly, the ability to enforce regulatory compliance.

The Essence of Cabin Crew Roles

She emphasized that cabin crew members are professionals who prioritize passenger safety and comfort, beyond just serving tea and coffee. The fair provides a platform for cabin crew and participants to interact, share experiences, and learn best practices from each other.

It also offers industry experts a chance to discuss the latest developments in aviation safety and collaborate on regulatory functions.

A Platform for Industry Collaboration

The fair brings together industry experts and stakeholders to discuss the latest developments in aviation safety and share best practices. This collaborative effort ensures that the aviation industry maintains the highest standards of safety and service.

By focusing on the critical role of aeromedical knowledge, the 7th Cabin Crew Fair highlighted the comprehensive nature of cabin crew responsibilities, emphasizing their importance in ensuring passenger safety and comfort.
