United Nigeria Airlines has officially joined IATA, confirmed in an October 9, 2023 letter. Director General William Walsh warmly welcomes, expressing, “It gives me great pleasure to welcome United Nigeria Airlines as an IATA member.” He elaborates on IATA’s mission and vision for a secure and sustainable air transport industry.

CEO Prof. Obiora Okonkwo sees this as a strategic global move. COO Mazi Osita Okonkwo highlights its positive impact, stating, “The membership boosts our strategic goals.”

He adds, “We welcome IATA membership and assure it will propel us to exceed customer expectations on safety and service delivery.”

This follows the airline’s accreditation as an IATA Operational Safety Audit certified carrier. United Nigeria Airlines expands operations with plans for direct flights to Accra and other destinations. The fleet grows with two Airbus A320s arriving in mid-October and early December, and E-190 Embraer aircraft in early 2024.

Additionally, the airline gained approval to commence direct flights to North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
