Strengthening aviation safety ties is the main goal as the National Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Director General, Captain Alex Badeh (Jr), actively builds stronger relationships with key regional organizations. Captain Badeh recently visited the headquarters of the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA) and the Instituto De Prevencao E Investigacao De Accidentes Aeronauticos E Maritmos (IPIAAM) in Praia, Cabo Verde.
Specifically, Badeh Jnr, was briefed on regional activities by BAGAIA Commissioner, Engr. Charles Irikefe Erhueh.
Commissioner Erhueh welcomed the NSIB team, providing background on the Regional Accident Investigation Organisation (RAIO), its founding countries, and agreements. He discussed pending subscriptions, the way forward, and on-the-job training requests from member states. Additionally, Erhueh addressed RAIO expansion and challenges of BAGAIA member states, emphasizing the mutual benefits for NSIB and BAGAIA. All these he alluded, will aid in strengthening aviation safety ties.
The meeting included special adviser Capt. Bunmi Gindeh, BAGAIA’s Technical Support/Training Director Engr. Ameh Samuel, and Account Assistant Ms. Susana Benhaga.
The entourage also visited IPIAAM, where acting President Jorge Manuel Rodrigues welcomed them warmly. Mr. Rodrigues acknowledged the positive working relationship that IPIAAM had with Captain Badeh’s predecessor, Engr. Akin Olateru.
He expressed his confidence that this collaboration would continue to strengthen aviation safety in Nigeria, the ECOWAS region, and Africa as a whole.
Rodrigues said Captain Badeh’s should continue his predecessor’s good relationship with IPIAAM to further improve aviation safety in the ECOWAS region, and Africa.
“Since both IPIAAM and NSIB are relatively new to multi-modal accident investigations,” Mr. Rodrigues said, “by combining our expertise and resources, we can significantly contribute to the safety and well-being of the people we serve.”
Moreover, Rodrigues committed to implementing safety regulations and improving aviation safety classifications according to ICAO standards.
Captain Badeh responded by acknowledging NSIB’s recent entry into multimodal accident investigation. He said, “IPIAAM’s experience is valuable, and we want to learn from them. We both aim for the safest skies. Consequently, I am confident that this cooperation ensures NSIB and IPIAAM will achieve this shared goal.”
