Society of Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers of Nigeria (SLAMEN) calls on the government and industry stakeholders to support the development of aircraft maintenance infrastructure and training programs in Nigeria.
The organization states that airlines or Approved Maintenance Organizations need to employ many qualified, unemployed aircraft maintenance engineers in the country.
However, the organisation identifies a lack of standard, equipped hangar facilities in the country. Furthermore, they can be employed by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), which we also do not have.
“We need the establishment of multiple maintenance facilities and airlines to employ the qualified, unemployed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers in the country,” Engr Mubarak Haladu, President of SLAMEN.
SLAMEN further highlights the importance of aircraft maintenance in the aviation industry. “Our members ensure aircraft are airworthy and meet safety standards. They leverage Nig.CARS, ICAO Annexes, and Aircraft Manufacturers’ documents.”
“Every aircraft you see flying was certified as airworthy by an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer,” said Engr Haladu.
“We celebrate the dedication and expertise of our members who diligently keep the flying public safe.”
Moreover, SLAMEN is organizing events, including a symposium, training on new technologies, and an awards ceremony for outstanding contributions.
“Investing in aircraft maintenance will improve safety, grow the industry, and save forex for Nigeria,” said Engr Mubarak Haladu.
“Foreign currencies spent on aircraft maintenance abroad can boost Nigeria’s weakened economy,” said the professional body’s President, Engr Mubarak Haladu.
SLAMEN recognizes the critical role that Aircraft Maintenance Engineers play in ensuring the safety, security, and reliability of air travel.
The organization celebrated International Aircraft Engineers Day with the global aviation community last Friday, May 24, 2024.
Furthermore, the organization states that airlines or Approved Maintenance Organizations need to employ many qualified, unemployed aircraft maintenance engineers in the country.
The professional organization, with about four thousand Licensed Aircraft Engineers, provides members with education through seminars and workshops.
Consequently, SLAMEN, an affiliate of Aircraft Engineers International (AEI), focuses on air safety, aviation maintenance, and maintenance-qualified personnel worldwide.
