Lagos Aviation Academy’s Collaboration
From L-R: Group Managing Director, Finchglow Holdings, Mr Bankole Bernard; Group Executive Director, Mrs Yetunde Bankole Bernard and Regional Manager, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Barrister Bukola Teriba at the launch of Lagos Aviation Academy New Facility in Lagos recently.

Mr. Bankole Bernard says Lagos Aviation Academy’s collaboration with NANTA will help reduce uncertified travel agencies in the country. Bankole, President of AATON, emphasized, “LAA is committed to training rigorously and setting industry standards accurately.”

He made this known at the LAA building launch at Emina Crescent in Ikeja. He further projected more partnerships with other organizations to enhance capacity.

Bernard stated, “Finally, we have come to a befitting place for the academy. This sets the record straight that the government needs to focus on developing people, as they are any nation’s greatest asset.”

“Moreover, we realize that, in our capacity, we will try to develop people who add value to our industry. That is what we have been doing in LAA, and subsequently that is what we will continue to do,” Bernard affirmed.

He emphasized, “The collaboration coming from NANTA is to increase the level of professionalism amongst travel agencies. As you are aware, we have unprofessionals in the system. And this partnership will aid NANTA improve the knowledge base of members. I think that is the right direction, and we are willing to collaborate with as many bodies as possible.”

Bernard stressed that stringent parameters make manpower training in the aviation industry not an all-comers affair. He therefore noted that LAA was in it to show professionalism. “We are glad to say we have added to the level of professionalism in the Nigerian aviation industry. And we are going to be pushing like we have never pushed before to ensure that professionalism is enshrined in this particular industry, we find ourselves in.”

Furthermore, examining how Nigeria’s 200 million population can help the nation, Bernard referenced developments in countries like Singapore and the Philippines. “Today, in Singapore with a population of over five million, they have 2.5 million people registered with their national library. That signifies that they do not joke with their education and knowledge. Consequently, I’m looking forward to how we are going to drive the aviation industry in such a way that, with the people we have, we can easily expand to every part of the world.”

He also mentioned, “One thing the Philippines as a nation does is export their citizens to other parts of the country to work. The country makes a living from this. We have over 200 million people. In other words, we should stop talking about unemployment. There are jobs for people to do. It is just someone directing them in the right path.”
