INDISCRIMINATE parking by drivers of important personalities on the access road of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in spite of the availability of multi storey car park has become a challenge to the airport management’s plans to decongest traffic.
Regional General Manager South West Airports and Airport Manager of MMIA, Mrs Victoria Shin-Aba who frowned at the high level of recklessness among drivers of important personalities at the airport explained that the actions of these drivers coupled with the road constructions have contributed to traffic congestion.
Shin-Aba explained that the multi-storey car park was built to provide parking space for airport users for comfort and to avoid obstruction at the terminal.
According to Shin Aba, FAAN as a result of the ongoing work at the airport road decided to ease passengers movement by constructing a new arrival pick up area.
She noted that the airport road construction has affected the operations of the airport as electric cables and water pipes were occasionally dug out leading to power outage and interruption in water supply to the airport.
She said the airport was going through transformation with on going works at the terminal two getting to an advance level adding that it will be commissioned in no distance time.
She revealed that when put into use, the new terminal will be linked with the old one to ensure seamless passengers processing as more traffic will be recorded and urged passengers to bear with FAAN.
The airport manager remarked that it was not an easy task managing the over forty years MMIA in terms of replacement of facilities.
On plans to ensure safety this, Mrs Shin-Aba expressed delight that no major security or safety issues were recorded last year, saying that the management of MMIA will consolidate on that to work harder to achieve better result by complying with safety and security.
“There was no major issues with safety last year and we will build on it by complying with all safety issues in 2019”
Mrs Shin-Aba hinted that airport was working towards getting better shuttle buses to convey workers from the car park to the terminal.
