- Air Peace cancels Lagos Benin flights over curfew
FOLLOWING the announcement of a 24 hours curfew by the Lagos State government, Arik Air has cancelled all its flight operations for Wednesday, October 21, 2020.
The airline, whose main hub is Lagos has also advised passengers to reschedule at no extra cost.
A statement by the airline spokesman Adebanji Ola read,”All booked passengers on the cancelled flights are advised to reschedule their flights for later dates at no extra cost.
“The Lagos State government announced a 24 hours curfew effective 4:00pm October 20, 2020.
Meanwhile due to curfew Air Peace has cancelled flight to Lagos and also Benin as both states are in similar situation. The airline in a flight advisory read,”This is to inform the general public that due to the newly imposed curfew in Lagos and Benin, we shall not be operating flights from there two locations till further notice.
” Our esteemed customers whose flights are disrupted by this new development can send a mail to us for a possible reschedule,” it read.
It was also learnt that Africa World Airlines (AWA) the Ghanaian-based carrier followed suit and has cancelled it’s flights into the country.
However, aviation players feel there is no need to raise the red flag stating that the government did not bar airlines.
our source said,”In as much as we have curfew at any point of entry, for a Foreign Carrier, it means ‘No Landing Point’. due to increased threat I.e complete cancellation of flights or diversions if possible. However, some Airlines can still operate if they so wish.”
Another concerned stakeholder, speaking under conditions of anonymity also buttressed the fact that airlines are not restricted.
” I believe no legitimate flight is restricted from operating. Airlines have the right to either operate or cancel their flights as they deem fit. Regards.
