AIB in groundbreaking collaboration with Nigerian Air Force

ACCIDENT Investigation Bureau Nigeria (AIB-N), in line with its inter-agency collaboration agenda, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Wednesday July 1, 2020.

In his statement to the press, Engr Olateru AIB-N Commissioner/CEO, stated that, “Our duty, as Accident Investigators of Civil Aviation, is one thing but understanding one’s needs is very critical to the success of an institution.”

Outlining the many benefits to the respective Agencies involved, and to Nigeria as a whole, the Commissioner confirmed that the Bureau is actively seeking similar collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Federal Road Safety Corporation (FRSC), and Nigerian Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

Engr Akin Olateru, intimated that this agenda is hinged on the importance of mutual knowledge exchange, human capacity development and shared resources in the pursuit of excellence in service delivery.

This groundbreaking development, the first of its kind in the history of AIB Nigeria, occurred barely a week after the courtesy visit of the Air Force Commandant to the Bureau’s Head Office in Abuja.

The Bureau, under this current administration, is focused on engendering relationships which enable excellence and enduring world-class standards in the investigation and prevention of Air Accidents in Nigeria

Olateru signed the agreement on behalf of AIB-N, while Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Amao who represented Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff of NAF at the signing ceremony also put pen to paper on behalf of the Nigerian Air Force.

Amao commended the leadership at AIB-N for consistently seeking ways to improve safety in the nation’s airspace through early release of accident investigation reports.

He assured Olateru that NAF would ensure maximum cooperation with the bureau in areas of common interests and mutual benefits in the onerous task of ensuring aviation safety and security.

Amao said that NAF had over the years made tremendous progress in research and development.

He noted that remarkable progress made by NAF in recent time was not unconnected with strategic partnership with ministries, departments and agencies for enhanced research and development.
