Their elevation marks another milestone in the airline’s investment in professional excellence and career progression.

The decoration ceremony took place at the airline’s corporate headquarters in Lagos. The promotion followed the officers’ successful completion of rigorous training and assessment requirements. Both pilots demonstrated the experience, technical competence and discipline required to assume aircraft command.

Speaking at the ceremony, Capt. Onipe highlighted the career progression of the two officers. He acknowledged their accumulated flying experience, performance during training and successful completion of the required assessments.

He described their elevation as recognition of their professional competence and readiness for greater responsibilities. Meanwhile, Capt. Udaya stressed the importance of operational discipline, sound judgment and strict adherence to safety procedures.

He reminded the newly promoted captains that command carries significant responsibility. Beyond technical proficiency, they must demonstrate sound decision-making and an unwavering commitment to protecting lives.

The ceremony’s defining moment came with the presentation of captain epaulettes to both officers. The decoration formally marked their transition from senior first officers to aircraft commanders.

Air Peace Celebrates Homegrown Pilot Development

In their separate remarks, the newly decorated captains expressed appreciation to the airline’s management, instructors and leadership. They acknowledged the support, mentorship and investment that contributed to their professional advancement.

Capt. Emmanuel Adeniji described himself as an “Air Peace Baby”, reflecting on his journey with the airline. He disclosed that Air Peace sponsored his flight training, providing an opportunity that eventually led to his elevation.

He described the promotion as the fulfilment of a long-held ambition. His journey, he said, demonstrated the airline’s commitment to developing aviation professionals from the classroom to the cockpit.

Similarly, Capt. Felix Adebambo reflected on his transition from Aero Contractors to Air Peace. He described his experience at the airline as rewarding, particularly its fleet expansion and growing opportunities for professional development.

Both captains pledged to justify management’s confidence through professionalism, discipline and exemplary leadership. Their promotion also highlights the opportunities available to Nigerian pilots within the country’s expanding aviation sector.

Onyema Reiterates Air Peace’s Zero-Compromise Safety Policy

Congratulating the officers, Dr. Onyema expressed pride in their achievements. He noted that both pilots had attained a significant milestone in their careers at relatively young ages.

However, the Air Peace chairman emphasised that technical proficiency alone does not define an effective captain. He identified character, integrity and leadership as equally important qualities for pilots entrusted with aircraft command.

“Character is everything. Character can take you to places you never imagined. How you handle leadership, both within and outside the cockpit, will determine the altitude you attain in life,” he said.

Dr. Onyema also reiterated the airline’s uncompromising approach to operational safety. He cautioned the newly promoted captains against unnecessary heroics or decisions that could endanger passengers and crew.

“We don’t want heroics in aircraft. If, in your best judgment, an aircraft is not serviceable or the weather conditions are unfavourable, don’t fly. Nobody will force you to compromise safety. In aviation, what we preach above everything else is safety,” he stated.

He assured the captains that management would support decisions taken genuinely in the interest of safety. He also urged them to maintain honesty, accountability and sound judgment throughout their service.

The chairman congratulated the officers and their families, encouraging both captains to approach their new responsibilities with humility and professionalism.

The double promotion further reinforces Air Peace’s investment in human capital and indigenous aviation expertise. It also highlights the airline’s efforts to create sustainable career pathways for Nigerian pilots.

As the airline continues expanding its operations and fleet, developing qualified pilots remains critical to its long-term operational capacity. The elevation of Adebambo and Adeniji therefore represents both individual career achievements and another step in strengthening Nigeria’s aviation workforce.
