ATSSSAN NAMA New Executive Makes Bold Funding, Welfare Pledge

The new executive of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), NAMA Branch, has backed management’s push for an improved allocation of Aviation Height Clearance revenues. The branch said adequate funding remains essential to sustaining the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency’s (NAMA) critical airspace management responsibilities. It also pledged to promote industrial harmony, protect workers’ welfare and strengthen collaboration with management.

The commitment was announced during the inauguration of the newly elected executive at NAMA headquarters annex in Lagos. The ceremony marked the beginning of a new leadership tenure for the union’s branch within the agency.

New Executive Backs Improved Aviation Height Clearance Allocation

In his inaugural address, newly elected ATSSSAN NAMA Branch Chairman, Comrade Ekip Ekip Eso, reaffirmed the union’s support for management’s efforts to secure a better allocation of Aviation Height Clearance revenues. He said NAMA’s responsibility for managing Nigeria’s airspace requires adequate and sustainable funding.

According to him, improved funding would help the agency maintain essential infrastructure, strengthen operational capacity and meet its statutory obligations. He added that the branch would pursue constructive advocacy alongside management and other stakeholders.

The chairman also pledged to work with sister unions to advance a common position on the revenue allocation issue. This, he said, would involve engaging relevant authorities and promoting a consistent approach to securing the agency’s funding needs.

New Executive Lists Seven Priorities for Workers

Beyond funding advocacy, the new executive identified workers’ welfare and professional development as major priorities. Comrade Eso said the leadership would pursue timely payment of entitlements, equitable career advancement and improved working conditions.

The seven priority areas outlined by the chairman include: Improved workers’ welfare, timely payment of staff entitlements, equitable career advancement, professional training and development, safe working conditions, constructive engagement with management and sustained industrial harmony.

He also urged NAMA management to intensify engagement with relevant authorities. The objective is to secure urgent approval and implementation of the agency’s new Conditions of Service.

The chairman said improved employment conditions would support staff morale and strengthen the relationship between management and employees. He further stressed that responsible unionism requires dialogue, accountability and a shared commitment to institutional growth.

ATSSSAN NAMA New Executive Calls for Unity

The new executive also called on members to consolidate the renewed spirit of unity within the branch. Comrade Eso said collective progress depended on mutual respect, cooperation and commitment to the association’s objectives.

According to a statement signed by NAMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Dr Abdullahi Musa, the chairman acknowledged the responsibility entrusted to the new leadership. He pledged to discharge its mandate with dedication, fairness and accountability.

He also appreciated members and stakeholders who supported the branch during the delegate conference in Jos. In particular, he recognised ATSSSAN National President, Comrade John Ogbe, for encouraging dialogue and reconciliation.

The chairman said those efforts helped restore peace and mutual understanding within the union. He urged members to preserve the progress and avoid divisions that could undermine collective interests.

New Leadership Seeks Constructive Management Relations

The inauguration places the new executive at the centre of efforts to balance workers’ interests with NAMA’s institutional priorities. Its commitments cover funding advocacy, employment conditions, professional development and cooperation with management.

Meanwhile, the branch’s support for improved Aviation Height Clearance revenue allocation provides another platform for engagement with NAMA management. Both sides will need sustained collaboration to advance the agency’s funding requirements and address outstanding staff welfare issues.

The new executive’s ability to translate these commitments into measurable outcomes will shape its leadership tenure. Its immediate priorities include strengthening industrial relations and pressing for the implementation of improved Conditions of Service.
