Car Park relocation begins ahead of major airport expansion

Management of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the relocation of the car park serving Terminal 3 at Accra International Airport (AIA) as construction begins on a major infrastructure project. The move takes effect from Monday, 20 July 2026, and will pave the way for the development of a seven-storey Multi-Purpose Car Park and Airport Hotel Complex.

In a statement, GACL said the existing car park at Terminal 3 “will be closed to both stakeholders and the general public” from the effective date. The company explained that the closure is necessary to facilitate construction works aimed at improving airport infrastructure and enhancing passenger services.

To minimise disruption, GACL has completed a new Terminal 3 car park annex that will accommodate more than 600 vehicles. The temporary facility will serve both airport users and visitors throughout the construction period, ensuring parking remains available despite the closure of the existing site.

According to the company, “the Terminal 3 Car Park Annex, which has a capacity of 600+ vehicles, will serve the general public during this period.” In addition, parking attendants will be stationed at the facility to guide motorists safely into and out of the new car park.

The project forms part of Ghana Airports Company’s broader efforts to modernise facilities at Accra International Airport and improve the overall passenger experience. Meanwhile, the planned seven-storey development is expected to provide expanded parking capacity alongside an airport hotel once completed.

GACL appealed for patience and cooperation from all airport users during the transition. “GACL kindly requests the understanding and cooperation of all airport users and visitors throughout the transition period,” the company said.

The relocation is expected to allow construction activities to proceed without affecting airport operations significantly. Therefore, travellers using Terminal 3 are advised to follow directional signs and the guidance of parking attendants when accessing the new car park annex.
