Technical Fault Affects Airline Schedule
Air Peace temporarily suspended its scheduled Lagos-London Gatwick service after engineers discovered a minor technical fault on the aircraft shortly after passenger boarding.
The airline disclosed that the technical fault was detected during a routine post-boarding inspection before departure from Lagos. Consequently, the aircraft was withdrawn from service to allow immediate safety checks and maintenance procedures.
In a statement issued by management, Air Peace said the decision aligned with international aviation safety standards. The carrier stressed that passenger safety remained its highest operational priority despite the disruption caused to travellers.
According to the airline, “Following the completion of passenger boarding, a routine post-boarding technical check identified a minor aircraft fault that required immediate attention.”
The airline further explained that the aircraft was immediately grounded after the technical fault was identified. Passengers were safely disembarked while engineers assessed the situation to prevent any operational risk.
Air Peace stated: “In line with our uncompromising commitment to safety and global aviation standards, the aircraft was promptly withdrawn from service and passengers safely disembarked.”
Meanwhile, the disruption affected passengers travelling on the Lagos-London Gatwick route, one of the airline’s major international operations connecting Nigeria and the United Kingdom. However, the airline assured customers that alternative arrangements were already underway.
Management noted that all affected passengers received immediate support following the incident. The airline provided hotel accommodation and additional welfare assistance pending the arrival of a replacement aircraft from London.
“To minimise further disruption, a replacement aircraft from London will be dispatched and passengers are scheduled to depart this morning,” the statement added.
The airline also defended its decision to delay the flight, insisting that operational schedules would never override passenger safety. According to Air Peace, taking preventive action after the technical fault was the most responsible decision under the circumstances.
“At Air Peace, the safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew will always take precedence over operational schedules,” the airline said. It added that taking “swift preventive action was the responsible and necessary decision.”
Industry experts have repeatedly emphasised the importance of immediate technical inspections before international departures. Such routine checks help airlines detect faults early and avoid safety risks during long-haul operations. In addition, global aviation regulators continue to encourage strict compliance with aircraft maintenance standards.
The airline’s response also reflects wider industry safety practices recommended by the International Air Transport Association and the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Passengers affected by the disruption expressed frustration over the delay. However, many acknowledged that safety considerations should come first during international flight operations. Meanwhile, Air Peace apologised for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience and understanding.
Management reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to safe, reliable, and efficient flight services across its domestic, regional, and international network.
