The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, completes its ISO internal audit, intensifying the implementation of quality management standards (QMS) across all departments. This development follows approval by the DG/CEO of the agency, Prof. Charles Anosike, for training additional personnel as internal auditors. The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) conducted this training, preparing NiMet for migration to International Standard ISO 21001:2018. This standard is crucial for the Educational Organization Management System, ensuring the agency’s adherence to the latest global requirements.
During the ISO 29990:2010 internal audit at NiMet’s Regional Training Centre in Oshodi, Lagos, Usman Abdulrahman made remarks. “NiMet Management, led by Professor Charles Anosike, prioritizes staff capacity development and improves the services provided by NiMet.”
Mr. Abdulrahman continued, “NiMet completes ISO internal audit at the RTC, Oshodi, held from June 20th to 21st, 2024.” He stated, “This audit against the ISO 29990:2010 standard ensures our learning experience design, development, and delivery meet ISO requirements.” He emphasized, “It also aligns with World Meteorological Organization (WMO) standards, enhancing our programs’ quality and transparency.” The internal audit analyzes programs like Basic Meteorological Observation Course (BMOC), Basic Instruction Package for Meteorological Technicians (BIP–MT), and Basic Meteorological Package for Meteorologists (BIP–M). He concluded, “Our specialized training courses in Meteorology and Agro-meteorology also undergo thorough evaluation to ensure high standards.”
Mr. Abdulrahman concluded, “The ISO 29990 standard is implemented at RTC Oshodi to provide a unified standard for learning service provision.” He added, “It ensures a lifelong learning experience for interested parties in meteorological services in Nigeria, Western Africa, and Africa.”
