In response to the recent picketing of Turkish Airlines’ operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) issued a joint statement yesterday, emphasizing heightened security measures to prevent further disruptions.

Michael Achimugu and Obiageli Orah, Directors at NCAA and FAAN, expressed concern over disruptive behavior at airports, stressing law enforcement. They added, “FAAN increased security to prevent further disruptions.”

The agencies’ statement highlighted airport disruption severity, urging respectful resolution within legal confines to all involved parties.

The statement emphasized the safety and economic implications of airport disruptions, particularly for the aviation industry.

Furthermore, the authorities showed empathy towards stranded passengers, particularly vulnerable groups like children and older people, who experienced notable inconvenience.

The statement in part read, “The issues leading to this unfortunate incident are resolvable and must be done with respect to the law. The NCAA strongly advises persons and groups to desist from disrupting airport operations as it has serious safety and economic implications for the industry.

Efforts to resolve the impasse have been underway, with NCAA and FAAN engaging stakeholders in discussions. The authorities have conducted meetings with Turkish Airline representatives and labor union representatives.
