Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing critical safety infrastructure during a recent television interview. He highlighted the need to upgrade aviation equipment older than 10 years due to industry evolution.

Key upgrades will focus on unseen infrastructure like the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Doppler Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Radio Range (DVOR), alongside Distance Measurement Equipment (DME), Total Radar Coverage of Nigeria (TRACON), and Safe Tower Projects.

These systems, managed by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, ensure safe operations at high altitudes and during takeoff and landing. The ILS guides aircraft precisely during landings in challenging visibility, while DME measures exact distances from ground-based stations. DVOR provides crucial bearing information for navigation.

These systems collectively assist pilots in navigating and landing safely, particularly in adverse weather conditions or during nighttime operations.

Minister Keyamo says President Tinubu’s aviation agenda includes special funding to advance these critical improvements, highlighting the national commitment to air travel safety and efficiency.

He said, “Mr. President has put Aviation as part of the renewed hope special fund. I have also had some special intervention approved by Mr. President.”
