UNITED Nigeria has come out to clarify the situation that transpired on ground at Asaba Airport in Delta State and has said that at no time was safety compromised.
The United Nigeria Airlines aircraft an Embraer 145 operating operating out of Asaba International Airport, today, June 28, 2021, developed an Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) fault on ground leading to the disembarkment of passengers on the 2:15pm flight.
An auxiliary power unit (APU) is a device on a vehicle that provides energy for functions other than propulsion. They are commonly found on large aircraft and naval ships as well as some large land vehicles.
Asaba Airport doesn’t have ground power unit which is usually deployed in the event of the APU fails to respond, a standard operating procedure of which the passengers of Flight U50509 were briefed.
However, according to a statement signed by Head, Corporate Communications, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu , the battery has been fixed by the airline’s engineers and the aircraft has continued its flight to Lagos.
He said,”United Nigeria takes the safety of its passengers as top priority and assures its numerous customers that safety shall never be compromised.”
