The Aviation Ministry has mandated Dana Air’s suspension pending safety and financial audit, post its runway excursion yesterday. This directive seemingly goes against the Minister’s promise of non-interference in matters concerning regulations.

In a formal directive (PS/FMA/MA/S121/Vol.1/99), signed by Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, the Permanent Secretary highlights critical concerns necessitating Dana Air’s safety and financial audit.

The letter to the Director General highlighted serious safety and financial concerns regarding recent Dana Airline incidents as noted by the Minister.

“In light of these incidents and with the paramount priority being the safety and well-being of our citizens and travellers, the Honourable Minister has directed that you immediately initiate the suspension of Dana Airline’s fleet until a comprehensive audit can be conducted.

“The audit must cover safety protocols, maintenance, and financial health to ensure aviation regulation compliance.

Recent events have amplified urgency, demanding swift, decisive measures to safeguard stakeholders’ interests.

“I trust in your expertise and diligence in carrying out this audit thoroughly and expeditiously. Please keep me informed of the progress and any significant findings throughout this process.” The directive read.

Dana Air’s flight 9J0352, registration 5N-BKI, experienced a runway excursion at Runway 18L/36R of Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos.
