Massive 4% Jump in July Passenger Traffic-IATA

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released its global data for July 2025. The report shows a solid 4.0% increase in passenger traffic compared to July 2024.
This growth shows the aviation industry’s strong momentum. It is especially evident during the peak northern summer travel season.

 Global Aviation Performance 

Global demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs), increased by 4.0%. Capacity also grew by 4.4%. The global load factor was 85.5%, slightly down by 0.4 percentage points.
International travel saw the strongest growth at 5.3% year-on-year. Domestic passenger traffic rose by 1.9%, with Brazil and Asia-Pacific markets leading the way.

What The Director General Said

Director General Willie Walsh of IATA commented on the results. He stated, “Momentum has grown over the peak season with July demand reaching 4% growth.”
He noted that this trend is clear across all regions. It is especially strong for international travel. Airlines are well-positioned for the coming months

Regional Passenger Traffic Breakdown 

Africa: Passenger traffic increased by 2.8%. Routes between Africa and Asia showed significant growth.
Asia-Pacific: Demand grew by 8.7%. This was supported by strong regional travel.
Europe: Carriers saw a 4.0% increase in demand. Growth was driven by intra-European routes.
North America: Traffic rose by 2.4%. All routes grew except for those between North and South America.
Middle East: Carriers recorded a 5.3% rise in demand. This reflected a recovery after military conflict disruptions.
Latin America: Demand surged by 9.3%. Intra-regional travel was a key driver of this robust performance.

 Domestic Market Insights

Domestic passenger traffic increased by 1.9% overall. Brazil showed the strongest growth, up 9.4%. Australia also performed well with a 4.3% increase.
The U.S. domestic market, the world’s largest, grew by 1.5%. Japan recorded a record high July load factor of 81.4%.
