The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has completed drafting Nigeria’s State Safety Programme (SSP). This achievement marks a key milestone in Nigeria, aligning with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

The draft SSP reflects Nigeria’s dedication to ICAO Annex 19, offering a comprehensive approach to aviation safety. It outlines safety policies, objectives, and risk management strategies.

A State Safety Programme (SSP) is a systematic approach developed by a country to ensure aviation safety through structured processes. It includes defining safety policies, setting objectives, and identifying risks.

The SSP manages these risks with structured risk assessment and mitigation strategies to address potential safety issues. Regular monitoring and evaluation ensure the effectiveness of safety measures and processes.

Additionally, the SSP promotes safety by communicating best practices and fostering a strong safety culture among aviation stakeholders. It aligns with international standards, like those from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), to enhance aviation safety globally.

Acting Director General Capt. Chris Najomo invites stakeholders to provide feedback on the Nigeria’s State Safety Programme draft. He says, “Your input is crucial for enhancing the program’s relevance and success, ensuring national safety and security.”

The draft SSP is available on the NCAA website at www.ncaa.gov.na/ssp. Stakeholders should submit feedback by Monday, September 30, 2024.
