Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has emphasized the need for the timely aircraft assembly plant completion in Nigeria. During a recent inspection, he warned contractors against delays, stating that the government would revoke the project if timelines were not met. This strong stance reflects the administration’s focus on positioning Nigeria as a leader in aviation manufacturing while maintaining strict accountability.
Highlighting the importance of infrastructure development, Keyamo said, “We just want to bring development to Nigeria. It’s a huge project. For example, the aircraft chain is looking for this government.” His remarks underline the government’s commitment to creating opportunities for sustainable growth in the aviation sector.
During the inspection, one contractor promised to deliver the project within 24 months. However, Keyamo made it clear that strict adherence to the schedule was non-negotiable. “If they don’t move to the site or complete the project within the given timeframe, we will revoke. You cannot tie that to the federal government,” he stated firmly, emphasizing the need for accountability in all phases of the project.
Keyamo also called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders, stressing that inefficiencies in the aviation sector affect Nigeria’s international reputation. “This is the eye of Nigeria. Once we embarrass ourselves here, we embarrass the entire country. Please, I beg you. We need the permission of everybody to make this work,” he appealed, demonstrating the high stakes of the project for national pride.
In his conclusion, Keyamo urged stakeholders to resolve challenges internally rather than escalating them unnecessarily to higher authorities. “All of us can just adjust. I’m so grateful,” he said, reinforcing his vision of unity and cooperation. This unified approach, he explained, is critical for transforming Nigeria’s aviation sector into a global benchmark.
The completion of the timely aircraft assembly plant represents a milestone in Nigeria’s quest for aviation excellence. By fostering accountability and collaboration, the government seeks to not only meet domestic needs but also establish Nigeria as a prominent player in the global aviation industry.
