MINISTER of Transport, Ghana, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has said the government is committed to assist the growth, development and continued sustainability of the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA) stressing that the republic would fulfill its outstanding obligation both to the regional investigative organisation and ICAO.
Asiamah made this known yesterday at the BAGAIA Technical Committee meeting held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, Ghana stressing that as a country, Ghana has endeavored to establish the necessary institution and continue to builds capacity to ensure compliance with regional and international standards, stating that the Ghana Accident Investigation and Prevention Bureau is one of such institution.
Commissioner of BAGAIA, Engineer Charles irikefe Erhueh, who earlier gave the opening remarks at the 5-day technical meeting said one of the key issues the meeting would discuss is how to sustain the regional accident investigator and ensure it is not lacking resources both human and financial to carry out its responsibility.
According to him,some of the major achievement has been the BAGAIA assisting both Ghana and Sierra Leone in establishing their own independent accident investigation agency and a firm agreement with Liberia to do the same for the nation and put their aviation on the global map.
In his welcome address, Commissioner of the Aircraft Accident and Incident investigation and Prevention Bureau Ghana, Akwasi Agyeibi Prempii explained that BAGAIA Technical Committee is one of the highest decision making bodies of aircraft accident and incident investigation in the West African sub-region,meeting to instantly take decisions on situations that seek to sanitize and provide direction for aircraft accident investigation and prevention.
