FAAN’s Progress Under Kuku Garners Stakeholder Recognition After One Year

Stakeholders in Nigeria’s aviation industry have praised the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for its remarkable transformation. Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, FAAN’s Managing Director in just one year, has demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving the authority’s performance. FAAN under Kuku’s leadership particularly has undergone significant changes that enhanced its operational efficiency and standards.

 Her visionary leadership, according to industry experts, has been instrumental in ensuring the authority operates as a benchmark of excellence. At an event marking her one-year milestone and the MD’s Quarterly Award for Excellence in Lagos, speakers commended her efforts. Also, the focus on safety, security, and passenger facilitation emerged as pivotal themes of her tenure.

During the event, Mr. Henry Agbebire, FAAN’s Director of Special Duties, described Kuku’s leadership as a defining period of impactful leadership. He emphasized that her reforms have turned FAAN into a model institution within the aviation sector. Adding to this, General Manager of Safety, Mr. John Okezie Ekpe, highlighted how FAAN has advanced its safety culture. He pointed out critical achievements, such as the establishment of formal safety policies, compliance with international aviation regulations, and consistent training initiatives for staff. Ekpe remarked, “Through her leadership, FAAN has ensured safety remains at the core of our operations, which strengthens both our reputation and service delivery.”

Other directors, including Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, and Mr. Albert Afegbai, Director of Aviation Security (AVSEC), also praised Kuku’s efforts. They credited her for fostering collaboration across departments and enhancing operational efficiency. Similarly, Mr. Oguche Samuel Enejo, Assistant General Manager of Safety and Occupational Health, noted the launch of innovative safety resources like the Occupational Safety and Health Manual and Aerodrome General Safety Handbook as transformative milestones.

Speaking at the sidelines of the ceremony, Kuku expressed her gratitude to the FAAN workforce, whose support she described as the foundation of her achievements. She stated, “It is not just about what we have accomplished but how we have worked together as a team to achieve it. Kuku outlined plans for the coming months, promising significant landside and airside improvements to enhance airport operations. “Our focus remains on improving passenger experiences, upgrading terminals, and ensuring automation across major and secondary airports. These changes will ensure we match international standards in service delivery,” she affirmed. Kuku also assured travelers of noticeable upgrades during the festive season, citing the addition of aviobridges and new conveyor belts.

The event concluded with the presentation of the MD’s Awards to outstanding FAAN staff. It also featured the official launch of key safety documents, further underscoring the achievements of FAAN under Kuku’s leadership. Her leadership continues to resonate with stakeholders, positioning FAAN as a critical player in advancing Nigeria’s aviation sector.
