Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo confirms e-Gates installation in Nigeria’s international airports within the next four weeks. He puts completion of e-gates) installation at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 99% completion.

During a Friday inspection of the e-gates and Control Room at Abuja Airport, Dr. Tunji-Ojo announced that they would complete Abuja by Wednesday. Also, he said work would commence at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos starting Monday or Tuesday.

“The job was approximately 30% completed when I last visited, but now in Abuja, we can observe that we are at 99.99% completion.” By Wednesday Abuja will be 100% good.

“We’re starting in Lagos by Monday. Overall, by the 28th or 29th”, he emphasized,” 21 e-gates would be installed across all terminals in Lagos.”

The e-gates streamline passenger flow, replacing manual processes and reducing delays. Rigorous testing ensures seamless operations.

Tunji-Ojo noted that valid Nigerian passports clear in under 10 seconds, a significant improvement to the current waiting time.

“We tested different passports and scenarios; it’s impossible to use others or expired passports to enter Nigeria.”

The installation of e-Gates in Nigeria’s airports will be completed by the first quarter. ” By the third week of May Kano would have had its four e-gates. Port Harcourt would have had four e-gates and of course Enugu would have four e-gates.”

Minister Tunji Ojo accompanied by Permanent Secretary Dr. Aishetu Ndayako and Comptroller-General of Immigration Kemi Nandap commended the quality of work. ” From what we have seen, the architecture is good. The solution is seamless and its impossible for you to use another person’s passport or expired passport.

Speaking on the Command-and-Control Centre, the Minister said it was a world class infrastructure that can rival any in the world. He said,” The job has been 99% delivered”.
