Cracks emerge within unions as three disassociate from warning strike

IT seems the two-day warning strike scheduled for today May 9, 2020 by unions in the aviation industry over Conditions of Service( COS) and other sundry issues may not hold as three unions late last night pulled away from the strike.

The unions: Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP), Air Transport Services
Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), and National Association of Aircraft Pilot and Engineer (NAAPE) issued a special bulletin to all staff of NAMA, NCAA NIMET; AIB and NCAT. ‘Why we insist on 2-day warning strike,’ unions explain COS woes

According to them, new revelations forced them to backtrack following a meeting with Ministry’s representatives on the matter.

The notice to call of the strike read: ” We the above listed Aviation Unions wish to strongly disassociate ourselves from the planned
two days warning strike slated to commence on Monday May 9, 2022.

“We are compelled to take this decision following various revelation on the intent of the planned strike action. The decision to call off the strike was arrived at following our meeting with Ministry’s representatives on the matter.

” Some of us who initially participated in coming up with the strike bulletin were not properly briefed, most especially that we all are witnesses to the
efforts the Ministry of Aviation and its Agencies are making towards achieving our mission.

“In the light of the above, we strongly are of the belief that there is no justifiable reason for any warning strike.

“Consequently, we hereby call on all our Members to report for duty uninterruptedly as the
proposed warning strike is suspended forthwith.

“Meanwhile, we call on the Honorable Minister of Aviation, Management of Aviation Agencies and National Salaries Incomes, and Wages Commission to continue with their efforts towards the
realization of both the Consequential Salaries Adjustment and the Condition of Service accordingly.

The notice dated Sunday May 8, 2022 was signed by: Comrade Ilitrus Ahmadu President ATSSSAN, Comrade Kabir Y. Gusau,President ANAP; Comrade Galadima Abednego, President NAAPE, Comrade Abdulrasaq Saidu Secretary General ANAP and copied Honorable Minister, Aviation, Honorable Minister, Labor and Employment, Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, Director State Service, International/Domestic/Cargo,Managing Director, NAMA, Director General, NCAA, Director General, NIMET, Rector, NCAT, Zaria
