In 2023, Airbus, navigating a complex environment, achieved an impressive 11% surge, delivering 735 commercial aircraft globally to 87 customers.
The Commercial Aircraft business secured 2,319 gross new orders, concluding 2023 with a backlog of 8,598 aircraft, a testament to its resilience.
CEO Guillaume Faury lauded the exceptional sales and deliveries, attributing success to the enhanced global industrial system and strong demand from airlines.
“A number of factors came together to help us achieve our goals, including the increased flexibility and capability of our global industrial system, as well as the strong demand from airlines to refresh their fleets with our most modern and fuel-efficient aircraft.â€
Expressing gratitude, Guillaume acknowledged customers, suppliers, and Airbus teams for their role in this remarkable achievement.
Contrary to initial projections, Christian Scherer, CEO of Commercial Aircraft, noted a quicker-than-expected recovery in both single-aisle and widebody markets in 2023.
“We originally anticipated aviation to recover sometime in the 2023-2025 timeframe, but what we saw in 2023 was, alongside the single-aisle market, widebody return much sooner than expected, and with vigour.†He said.
Christian praised commercial and regional teams, highlighting record sales of A320s and A350s, along with seven new customers for the A350-1000.
Highlighting the significance of these accomplishments, Christian emphasized a lower carbon future with 735 more fuel-efficient Airbus jets contributing to sustainable aviation.
