ValueJet is preparing to welcome its first Boeing 737 Next Generation (737NG) aircraft, marking a major milestone in the airline’s fleet growth strategy. The move signals a new phase of expansion as the carrier strengthens its domestic, regional and international operations while investing in world-class technical expertise.

The airline said the addition of the Boeing aircraft will significantly enhance its operational capacity and improve efficiency. It will also enable ValueJet to serve more passengers and cargo, while extending its reach across Africa. Meanwhile, the investment builds on the airline’s successful operations with its existing CRJ fleet.

Fleet Growth Supports ValueJet’s African Expansion

Since launching commercial services, ValueJet has relied on its CRJ aircraft to establish a reputation for safety, reliability and on-time performance. The fleet has supported the airline’s domestic and regional network, connecting passengers across Nigeria and West Africa while laying a solid foundation for future expansion.

However, growing passenger demand and the airline’s long-term ambitions have prompted the next stage of its fleet growth programme. The Boeing 737NG will provide greater seating capacity, longer range and increased operational flexibility, allowing the airline to enter new regional and international markets.

As preparations continue, ValueJet’s aircraft maintenance engineers are undergoing intensive Boeing technical training in Lagos. The programme is being delivered by Boeing in partnership with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.

The training equips engineers with advanced knowledge of the Boeing 737NG aircraft. It covers avionics, airframe systems, powerplant maintenance, electrical systems, maintenance procedures, safety protocols and operational best practices aligned with European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards. Therefore, the airline expects the programme to strengthen its technical capability ahead of the aircraft’s arrival.

Managing Director and Accountable Officer of ValueJet, Captain Omololu Majekodunmi, described the development as a defining moment for the airline.

> “The arrival of Boeing aircraft into our fleet represents an exciting new chapter for ValueJet. Since commencing operations with our CRJ aircraft, we have remained focused on building a safe, reliable, and customer-centric airline. As we prepare to induct the Boeing aircraft, we are also investing in our people by ensuring our engineers receive world-class training that will enable us to maintain the highest standards of safety, reliability, and operational excellence. This investment positions us for the next phase of our growth and reinforces our commitment to delivering an exceptional travel experience.”

Chairman of ValueJet, Honourable Adekunle Soname, said the Boeing aircraft would play a central role in the airline’s expansion across Africa. In addition, he noted that the investment would improve connectivity while supporting economic development.

> “The introduction of the Boeing aircraft is more than a fleet expansion; it is a strategic investment in the future of ValueJet. These aircraft will significantly enhance our capacity and range, enabling us to connect more African cities while supporting trade, tourism, and economic integration across the continent. We are building an airline that will proudly connect Nigeria with Africa and beyond.”

With the arrival of the Boeing 737NG, ValueJet plans to launch services to Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire, Libreville in Gabon, Douala in Cameroon, as well as destinations in Kenya, South Africa and other African markets. These routes form part of the airline’s long-term strategy to strengthen regional connectivity and provide travellers with more seamless travel options.

Currently, ValueJet operates domestic services linking Lagos with Abuja, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Calabar, Kano, Jos, Benin City and Gateway International Airport, Iperu. The airline also serves Accra and Banjul, reinforcing its presence across West Africa.

The planned fleet growth reflects ValueJet’s ambition to become one of Africa’s leading regional carriers. As the airline prepares to induct the Boeing 737NG, it aims to enhance connectivity, support tourism and trade, and contribute to economic integration across the continent.
