United Nigeria Airlines has taken another significant step in its fleet expansion strategy with the arrival of two newly acquired Boeing 737-800NG aircraft. The aircraft, bearing registration numbers 5N-CFC and 5N-CFB, arrived in Lagos on June 13, 2026, marking a major milestone in the carrier’s growth plans.

The latest fleet expansion strengthens the airline’s operational capacity and supports its ambition to play a bigger role in Nigeria’s aviation sector. In addition, the aircraft will help the airline meet increasing passenger demand while enhancing service reliability and network efficiency.

According to the airline, the Boeing 737-800NG aircraft bring additional capacity, improved passenger comfort and greater operational flexibility. Therefore, travellers can expect a more seamless and premium flying experience across the airline’s network.

Speaking ahead of the arrival, Chief Commercial Officer Mr Adedayo Olawuyi described the acquisition as a landmark achievement for the carrier.

“This aircraft is not just about expanding capacity; it is about telling our story, celebrating our icons, and uniting our people with a renewed sense of pride,” Olawuyi said.

He further described the development as “a defining chapter in the airline’s growth journey and a proud statement of Nigerian excellence taking flight.”

Fleet Expansion Supports Growth Ambitions

The ongoing fleet expansion programme reflects United Nigeria Airlines’ commitment to strengthening its position within Nigeria and across Africa. Meanwhile, the Boeing 737-800 remains one of the world’s most successful narrow-body aircraft, recognised for its efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort.

The airline noted that the aircraft will support safe, seamless and world-class service delivery. Furthermore, they will strengthen operational capacity and route connectivity as the airline pursues regional and long-haul growth opportunities.

Beyond their operational role, the two aircraft carry deep cultural significance. The airline named them in honour of two distinguished Nigerians whose contributions continue to inspire generations.

One aircraft is dedicated to His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha and a respected custodian of cultural heritage. The second honours the late Professor Chinua Achebe, the celebrated author whose literary works transformed global perspectives on Africa.

According to the airline, the dual dedication transforms the aircraft into flying symbols of legacy, culture and national pride. As a result, the fleet expansion initiative carries both commercial and national significance.

The arrival of the aircraft comes as United Nigeria Airlines continues to invest in modernising its fleet and expanding its market presence. Industry stakeholders view such investments as essential to supporting Nigeria’s growing air transport demand and improving connectivity across the region.

The two Boeing 737-800NG aircraft arrived at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MM2), Lagos, and will be formally unveiled on June 18, 2026. The event is expected to attract key aviation stakeholders, including the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the Obi of Onitsha and other industry leaders.

With this latest fleet expansion, United Nigeria Airlines has reaffirmed its commitment to growth, operational excellence and enhanced passenger experience. The addition of the two Boeing 737-800NG aircraft positions the airline for greater capacity, stronger connectivity and future expansion opportunities.
